Yamaha Aerox 155 : If there’s anything that Yamaha excels at, it’s combining performance and style—and the Aerox 155 is an absolute testament of that. This is not some somnolent urban scoot, the one you might drive to the grocery store.
Nah, the Aerox outdoes it with its mean, beefy rubber, the aggressive stance, the cuts, and a heart borrowed straight from the iconic R15. It’s brash, it’s unlike anything else, and, frankly, it’s sort of addictive.
“It’s for people looking for a little more than the typical pussy-cat scooter and who want a bite without going the route of a big bad bike,” he said of the Aerox 155.
It offers the practicality of a scooter, but don’t let that make you think it’s not fun.
Design: A Sporty Head-Turner
A glance at the Aerox and you know this thing wasn’t meant to be the wallflower. It’s sculpted, angular and just straight-up muscular for a scooter.
The twin LED headlights, sleek side panels and split-seat configuration shout performance DNA.
It doesn’t hide, even from behind. The fat tyres, those sexy LED tail-lamps and those wicked-looking vents lend it a big-bike feel.
It is one of those rides that turns heads, whether you are zipping by or have stopped at the traffic light.
Engine & Performance – R15 inside a Scooter’s Body
Now, now, here’s where all the magic really happens – the Aerox is powered by a 155cc liquid-cooled engine, one that is shared with Yamaha’s R15, albeit this one’s tuned differently than the screamer found on the R15.
It generates close to 15 PS of power and sends it to the wheels through a CVT gearbox. That may not sound impressive on paper, but on a scooter, it’s a rocket.
Open the throttle, and there’s a good deal of urgency. Passing is a breeze and highway speeds come easy and the engine loves to be revved.
It’s alive, not the usual sluggish little scooter. Whether you’re flashing through the city streets or letting it all hang out on the open road, the Aerox doesn’t have two snug on its sheer power.
Ride & Handling: Sporty, But Not Too Sporty Smoothness
Yamaha has kept the center of gravity low on the Aerox, and it’s much more nimble than you would think.
It’s fast and it’s composed round corners and feels confidence-inspiring when you’re pushing the pace a little.
That said, its underbone frame and firm suspension do result in a tad firmer of a ride, particularly over rough passages.
But it’s never uncomfortable — just sporty. The forks do a decent job of dealing with much of the rough stuff on the way down, as do the twin rear shocks; some might find the rear unit a bit harsh.
Features: Stuffed Where It Matters
Yamaha hasn’t cut corners on the tech side of things as well. The Aerox comes with the fully digital LCD instrument panel and Bluetooth connectivity via Yamaha’s Y-Connect app and a side-stand engine cut-off and a capacious 24.5-litre underseat compartment that goes down easy on the helmet, phone, groceries.
It also gets a smart motor-generator for silent starts, an automatic stop-start system to save fuel at signals and a front disc brake with ABS, a feature that is rare (and very welcome) in this segment.
Practicality & Mileage
And do not be deceived by its sporty image: practicality is baked in. Mileage is at par, around 40-45 km/l, depends on the way you ride.
The seat is large and comfortable for the rider as well as the pillion however the tall seat height will not suit everyone, specially shorter riders. And with a 5.5-liter fuel tank, it’s not constantly pleading for more gas.
Pros:
Powerful 155cc engine – unequal in the class
Sporty look that’s sure to grab attention
Decent handling and highway stability
Generous under-seat storage
Packed with features – ABS, Bluetooth and more
Cons:
Expensive, especially when compared to regular scooters
Ride is a little stiff over bumpy roads
Not great for super short riders
Rear drum brake both – only one brake disc
Yamaha Aerox 155: Final Verdict
The Yamaha Aerox 155 is not just another scooter—it’s a fashion and style statement. It’s for the commuter who wants a little more fun out of every ride, who cares about design as much as performance.
Yes, it’s more expensive than a run-of-the-mill scooter, but it’s worth it in thrills, looks and road presence.
If day-in, day-out commuting and swift dodging of traffic has begun to feel a bit vanilla to you, then perhaps the Aerox 155 is the spice that will bring some kick to your garage.
