Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara: Maruti Suzuki, otherwise known as the flag bearer of affordable mobility in India, is all set to turn electric, and how! So here comes the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara, the first ever all-electric SUV from the manufacturer, created specifically for India.
And guess what? It is not a converted version of an existing model; it is a daring, ground-up EV that indicates a real pivot is coming down the pike from the automaker.
Developed in partnership with Toyota and one of Maruti’s many electric sales offensive in the country, the e-Vitara S trade delves right into the sweet spot that lists out performance, practicality, and affordability—couple of things that budget EVs in India have been able to achieve till date.
So, is this e-Vitara simply another trial, or is it the future for city SUVs? Let’s break it down.
Design: Familiar and Futuristic
The e-Vitara looks, at first glance, virtually identical to its petrol brother, the Grand Vitara.
But take a closer look at it and you’ll notice the EV-specific styling cues — such as a closed-off front grille, distinctive LED lighting signature, aerodynamic wheels, and some EV blue accents that are spread around the exterior.
It feels contemporary and uncluttered, displaying strong road presence thanks in part to its muscular stance and sculptured lines.
Like a visor, the rear is tidy too, with all-LED taillights and an e-Vitara badge that gently suggests what lurks beneath (or, rather, below) the bonnet.
The cabin takes similar cues from the outside — typical Maruti layout with new-age additions such as a fully digital instrument cluster, ambient lighting and an updated infotainment system that also showcases data specific to the EV with range, energy flow and charge status.
Performance: Smooth, Quiet, Intelligent Performance-wise, they meet the mark.
Propelling the e-Vitara is a permanent magnet electric motor engagement to a battery pack likely with a volume of around 40-50 kWh (official figures might change before a launch).
Thanks to a claimed real-world range of around 500 km (ARAI-tested), the e-Vitara will also obliterate worries about range.
It’s quick off the line, as we’ve come to expect from an EV. It punches out instant torque as the motor does its thing and makes overtaking and city dwelling a breeze. It is not a performance SUV, but neither does it feel sluggish.
Maruti is possibly leaning more towards efficiency than outright speed, which I guess is what the buyers of such cars are looking for.
You also get various drive modes, regenerative braking choices and an efficient heat pump system, all incentivising you to squeeze that battery to within an inch of its life.
Features & TechLoaded and Logical
The e-Vitara gets all the tech you’d find on a modern SUV —- 10.25-inch touchscreen, wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, 360-degree camera, ventilated seats, wireless charging, connected car tech and an EV specific navigation system that will show you charging stations near you.
Feature-wise, safety is covered with six airbags, ESP, ABS with EBD and a sturdy high-strength body with ADAS functions in the top trims – something that’s increasingly become the norm in this segment.
Charging: Fast and Flexible
The e-Vitara is compatible with fast charging (DC) and normal home AC charging.
A DC fast charger can fill it up from 0-80% in about 45 minutes, while a 7–8 hour charge will get you a full juice from a home charger – ideal for an overnight soak.
Maruti is also developing a country-wide charging infrastructure with its partners, so that range anxiety shouldn’t be that big an issue for long distance travel.
Pros and Cons

Unique modern EV SUV design
Claimed impressive 500 km range

Final Verdict
The Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara is more than just an EV — It is an announcement. One rather bold from a brand that has always played it safe.
It could well be India’s first true mass market electric SUV, with a good range, sturdy design and a trusted badge behind it.
It may not be the flashiest or the speediest, but it’s real-world, future-ready and deeply connected to the Indian consumer’s requirements.
And that, precisely, is what makes the e-Vitara such a game-changer.
This one may tick all the right boxes for buyers ready to make the electric switch, without giving up the feel of an SUV.
